SemanticWiki for SharePoint is a semantic wiki that was designed and developed for professional use within Microsoft SharePoint 2007. Apart from the well-known features of a traditional wiki (collecting and exchanging information), SemanticWiki has also additional semantic features.
Within SemanticWiki individual wiki pages can be assigned to be a particular knowledge object: person, product, department, company, etc. The created pages have therefore an explicit meaning (semantics). For example, the system “knows” that "John Doe" is an employee and "TRF 2000" is a product. This information can be used for other features within SemanticWiki to automatically generate reports/reporting’s or lists/ tables. This makes it possible to generate overviews containing all departments and products of a company. The information is collected from different wiki pages and partly generated by using company specific business rules (deduced information). The pages show the implicitly available knowledge which is collected automatically and therefore no manual maintenance is necessary.
